Museums of Spoleto

There are three important museums in Spoleto, all of which are visited in Walk I:

• the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, which contains remains from pre-Roman sites in the region and from Roman Spoletium;
  

• the Museo Diocesano, which contains works of art from churches in the diocese; and
  

• the Museo del Ducato di Spoleto, a splendid new museum in the Rocca that contains exhibits that illuminate the history of Spoleto from early Christian times until the Renaissance. 
  

The Pinacoteca Comunale is not open at the moment (January 2008), although some of the paintings that used to be in its collection now in the Museo del Ducato di Spoleto.  There are plans to exhibit the rest of the collection in Palazzo Collicola (see Walk I).
