Lake Aiso

The name of this small, deep, freshwater lake north of Bevagna derives from the Italian  word for abyss.

Bronze votive offerings found nearby suggest that it was a cult site devoted to a river god perhaps as early as the 7th century BC.  It remained a place of superstition well into modern times.
