Sala dei Bronzi

This room in the loft of San Domenico Vecccio was used as a dormitory by the friars, and had a staircase that led directly to the choir below.  The exhibits here include :
  • finds from the excavations of an early bronze age settlement at Belverde on Monte Cetona (40 km from Perugia, towards Chiusi), which Umberto Calzoni carried out in 1927-41;
  • bronze age objects that Giuseppe Bellucci collected in the late 18th and early 19th centuries; [and
  • Roman artifacts collected in the 19th century by Mariano Guardabassi.]

Iron Age sword (ca. 8th century BC)

This magnificent weapon was found in 1926 at Fontivegge (near the railway station), and is displayed with a number of other Iron Age finds from across Umbria in the first cabinet on the left.

Finds from Valle di San Marzio (ca. 8th century BC)

A cabinet in the Salone dei Bronzi (to the right of the third pillar on the right) contains a display of Umbrian artefacts that were found in a terracotta vase during excavations at Valle di San Marzio, Gualdo Tadino in 1937.  Pride of place goes to two lovely gold leaf discs inscribed with geometric patterns that feature symbols of the sun.
