Museo Archeologico Nazionale
dell' Umbria
Coin Collection and Prehistoric Section
Coin Collection
The collection began with that of Count Francesco Friggeri, which he donated in 1790. Other important acquisitions included:
the purchase in 1927 of over 2,300 ancient, medieval and modern coins, medals, and papal bulls from of the Quarlieri Collection; and
3,782 medieval coins that were found in Perugia in ca. 1930.
The collection is currently being re-organised.
Prehistoric Section
A
26-meter diagram on the left wall sets out the sequence of prehistoric
civilizations from the earliest known to the Bronze Age. The stone age
artifacts from Umbria and other regions of Italy that are displayed on
the opposite wall came largely from the collection of Giuseppe
Bellucci.
