St Himerius (June 17th)
St
Himerius (SantÂ’ Imerico) was a respected Bishop of Amelia who died in
ca. 570. His relics were translated to the Duomo of Amelia in ca. 862.
In
1195, the commune gave (or more probably sold) the relics to Bishop
Sicard of Cremona, and they were interred with great ceremony in the
Duomo there.
(Bishop Sicard also arranged for the
canonisation of a local layman, St Homobonus in 1199, and the Duomo of
Cremona was then re-dedicated to both saints. This seems to have been
part of a political campaign to woo the people of Cremona away from
their traditional allegiance to the Hohenstauffen Emperors).
