Alessandro Geraldini (see Geraldini Family) was one of the most important historical figures from Amelia.  The portrait was painted by an unknown artist.

Second Room

Most of the altarpieces in this room date to the 17th and 18th centuries and came from the ex-church of Sant’ Angelo.

Three others are of note:

St Antony Abbot (detail)

St Antony Abbot Enthroned (1475)
This important early work by Piermatteo d' Amelia was restored in 1966.  It is almost certainly the altarpiece that is recorded in a document discovered in 1992, which related to a commission for church of the  Convento di San Giovanni Battista.  (This convent at Villa San Giovanni outside Amelia, which belonged to the Observant Franciscans, is now privately owned).

The saint is shown with his usual attributes, including his pig at his feet, with an open book in his left hand and his right hand raised in blessing.  The figure was almost certainly modelled on the wooden statue of St Antony Abbot (1475) by Vecchietta in the Duomo, Narni.

St John the Baptist Altarpiece (1469)

This panel, which also came from the  Convento di San Giovanni Battista, is probably by a follower of Piermatteo d’ Amelia, although it is sometimes attributed to Piermatteo himself.  It depicts the Madonna and Child enthroned with SS John the Baptist and Francis against a gold background.  God the Father is in the lunette and the predella contains tondi of the Virgin and St John the Evangelist flanking a Pietà.

Crucifixion with saints (1557)
This altarpiece by Livio Agresti of the Crucifixion with SS Firmina and Olympiades is of unknown provenance.
